Faradome (Agelong - Summer Solstice) - June 21st
After the Elven kin was created, and as their Life began upon Sosaria, Da'Nogra
(God of Orcs, a terrifying being whose brute strength is unmatched in the
realm, but whose wisdom leaves to be desired) began pitting the Orcs
against them. Reasons for his anger have long since fled the Elven minds,
though some are quick to say he was jealous of their wisdom. Ilùvatar
did not take kindly to His children being attacked. But, as Ilùvatar
is just and fair, He tried speaking to Da'Nogra first. The Orc God merely
laughed at him, and continued to urge the Orcs to invade the Elven
lands.
Hearing the cries of pain of His beloved children, Ilùvatar tried reasoning with
Da'Nogra once more, but to no avail. Anger befell upon Ilùvatar
then, and he shook the lands of Sosaria. All but Da'Nogra trembled before
his might. And when He spoke the words of threat to the Orcs, they
retreated back into their towers. It was not long, though, before Da'Nogra
urged His Orcs to attack the Elves again. Long did the Elven nation pray
to Ilùvatar, and long did Ilùvatar try to reason with Da'Nogra.
Finally, when Elves were but few in number, Ilùvatar descended upon Da'Nogra to battle.
They fought for decades; Da'Nogra with his heavy hammer and Ilùvatar
with his magics and blades. In the end, Da'Nogra fell to the ground
and Ilùvatar became the victor. Seeing the defeat of their God, the Orcs ran back to
their settlement. Chaos reigned within their ranks, reducing the mighty
armies to scattered tribes. Da'Nogra never forgot his defeat, and vowed
revenge against Ilùvatar. But Ilùvatar had gone back to Valinor - a place of light where Da'Nogra could never
enter. The Orc God retreated into the Gray plane, where he began training
the fallen Orcs, hoping to build his army once more and defeat Ilùvatar's
cherished children: the Elves.
The story of Ilùvatar battling Da'Nogra was first told at Summer solstice.
The day became a holiday that celebrates the victory against the Orc Kin:
Faradome (Agelong). To honor the incredible deed Ilùvatar performed for His
children, Elves mimic the ancient battle. And, thus, they take up arms against
the Orc tribes and attempt to cleanse Sosaria of the vile creatures.
Manwë, the Champion of the Valar is called upon in battle, for he can defeat any
enemy. His blessings and mysteries often imbue paladin and warrior Elves
with incredible power.
The battle against the Orcs is held until Manwë's son, Araleth Letharanil
(patron of Twilight) brings darkness to Sosaria. Once the sun has set,
Elves cast their arms aside and return to their homes. Elves will not
fight after darkness, for they do not wish for Da'Nogra to amass large
armies in the Grey Plane. Instead, Elves allow that the Orc spirits be
reborn in Nature, thus bringing balance to Sosaria. After tending to their
wounds (if any), they will meet at taverns to speak of the incredible
feats of power, or to recount the story of Ilùvatar's victory with pride.
Fine wine and smooth ale are shared around, and many stories are told deep
into the night.
