Becoming an Elder in ELF is a huge step, one that carries with it a great deal of responsibility and
authority. A promotion to Elder is a huge event for an elf. It is the culmination of many months of
hard work and dedication to the guild. Granting such a promotion to an elf is a request for a serious
future commitment to the guild, a request that this elf will dedicate themselves to the good of the
guild and help ELF grow into something even stronger and better than it is today.
There are several requirements which must be met prior to an elf being considered as a nominee for
Eldership:
Requirement #1:
A nominated elf must have been in the guild, and active, for a continuous period of at least
5 months. Significant periods of inactivity and leaving the guild for periods of time will force
a reset of this counter unless circumstances were in play beyond the elf's control.
(ie: The elf in question went on vacation for 4 weeks but was active up until their departure
and immediately following.)
Requirement #2:
The nominated elf must have hosted a minimum of two major events and have been
frequently active at other events, either participating or assisting others in running them.
Requirement #3:
The nominated elf must have significant leadership experience within the guild of at least
1 full month. This leadership experience can be accomplished through active class leadership,
through heavy involvement in the Sintar program or through secondary leadership roles.
(ie: active as a second in command of a path or program for a significant period of time).
The elf must be seen as a leader and must be seen to have the respect of the others in the guild.
An elf who has fulfilled these requirements may be considered as an Elder candidate.
On a cyclical basis, the GMs and Arch Elders will do a review of potential Elder candidates.
Factors such as current guild size, guild activity, size of active Eldership, etc, will be important in
this review. Elves who are considered candidates for Eldership do not need to actively pronounce
their desire to be Elders as it is assumed that an elf who has fulfilled the above requirements has more
than made themselves visible and known to the entire Eldership.
The following factors are considered in reviewing an elf for possible Eldership:
Activity:
How frequently is the elf in question online? How often are they on the forums?
How active are they in IRC? How active are they in game? Are they seen at most events?
Personality:
How does the elf respond to higher level leadership decisions that they disagree with?
How does the elf respond during stressful situations?
Cooperation:
Does the elf in question get along with the rest of the guild? What is the opinion of those who
work closely with this elf? What of the opinions of others who don't? What is the general consensus
of the Eldership towards this elf?
Leadership:
Is the elf in question a respected member of the guild leadership team?
Do others listen to their words and respect their decisions?
Eldership nomination/voting system:
Elves who are picked for potential Eldership are hand selected by the GMs and Arch Elders
and placed upon a nomination list. Included with each of these nominations will be a bio of the
elf in question, their strengths, their weaknesses and areas where specific training would need
to be targetted if they are selected.
Of these nominees, the three top candidates are selected for Eldership voting.
The three nominees are then presented before the Eldership and each GM, Arch Elder and Elder
shall reply with either a "yes" or a "no" vote for each candidate.
The candidate that receives the highest percentage of "yes" votes and
has received a 75% vote, or higher, will be the winner of the election and shall be promoted
to the Eldership Training Program at which time an Arch Elder will be assigned to the training
of the Elder in question.
An elf who receives higher than a 75% "yes" vote but does not win is given an automatic
inclusion in the next cycle of nominations.
An elf who receives less than a 75% "yes" vote is unable to be nominated for the next election.
However, This elf may be nominated again in the election following. An elf who receives 3 less than
75% votes can no longer be considered for Eldership in any future election.
The list of nominated elves, the reasons for nomination (including weaknesses and strengths),
as well as the election results, shall be kept strictly confidential. The elf who has won the election
shall be contacted privately and informed that they may enter the Eldership Training Program
(if they so choose to accept this honor). It is left to the elf in question to keep their time in the
Training Program confidential or let others know.
Any GM, Arch Elder or Elder who releases confidential nomination or election results shall be
subject to serious reprimand by the Eldership, which may include temporary or permanent removal
of their Eldership rank.
Thus, the elf who is considered the most likely candidate for Eldership will receive the promotion
and shall be placed into the Eldership Training Program. An elf who is considered a strong candidate
but did not receive the top vote will still be considered for the next round of promotions. An elf who
has been through an election before will have their vote tally(tallies) included in their next nomination.
Eldership Training Program
This program is administered by the Arch Elders of the guild. Their role is to train new Elders
and ensure that they have the tools required to do the job.
The Arch Elder can, at any time during the training process, terminate the training program
and request that the elf in question be declined Eldership. Such a request shall include a
detailed list of reasons why the elf was declined in order to assist the elf in working on their
weak areas. An elf who is declined Eldership in this fashion may still be nominated for future
candidacy.
