Alu'Quessir - Sea Elves

History of the Alu'Quessir

The Sea Elves, or Alu’Quessir, are the least known and most mysterious of the elven races. They left the ancient elven city of Ilcasilme on finely crafted ships made in the image of those in the Lost Fleet. Their leader, Antarte, was a sailor and ship builder by trade but despite his simple lifestyle, his knowledge of the heavens was unsurpassed in Sosaria. Antarte’s knowledge of the stars and celestial patterns allowed the elven fleet to keep on course during the night or day (to this day, is still taught to Alu’Quessirat a very young age). Over the waves they sailed for years, stopping and living on islands from time to time. It is on these islands that the first Alu’Quessir cities were formed. Due to these coastal cities, many mixed-blood elves have Alu’Quessir blood in them. Living on the coast, the Elven cities attracted all sea-farers including humans who would frequently visit and do business there. However, these cities did not last for more then a few centuries as the coasts were too land-bound for the Alu’Quessir’s liking. It is said that the Alu’Quessir found a way to actually create cities below the waves and is assumed a great ancient magic was used to create the cities and enchant them. The greatest of these cities is Nevear (which means Near the Sea). Its streets were said to be paved with pearl and the air even sweeter then the soft sea breeze that blows on a clear coastal day. These cities were indeed enchanted for those who left them were never again able to find them and thus many Alu’Quessir arrived in the lands of Sosaria unable to return to their homelands.

Characteristics of the Alu'Quessir

The Alu’Quessir are the fairest of the Elven Races. Their skin is quite pale and their hair is usually a light blond or white. A slight bluish or greenish tint to their hair is not uncommon either. Sea Elves’ eyes are almost always some shade of blue, varying from the palest sky blue to the darkest blue of the night sky. There is a depth to their character that reflects the depths of the ocean they love so dearly. They are calm and patient by nature but quite passionate and protective of things they care about most. They are said to have a great democracy in place, however, little is known of their society beneath the waves. Those Alu’Quessir who choose the life on Sosaria’s landmasses are protective of their secrets and do not share them with any elves other then fellow Alu’Quessir. They do, however, share their knowledge of the heavens readily and, like their ancestor Antarte, learn as much about the celestial bodies as they possibly can. (due to this, they are especially prone to worshipping sky-related Valar). The Alu'Quessir are exceptionally talented musicians and can wield great power through their music. Into the notes they weave their love of the stars and sea and the result is a rhapsody of unimaginable beauty and depth.
